About The Event

Due Rights and Doing Right In the publishing world, even highly-seasoned literary translators are sometimes unaware of their due rights. This is especially true for translators of lesser-diffused languages and in Southeast Asia where literary translators are often underpaid and insufficiently recognized. How do translators safeguard their intellectual property in order to forge a career as professional translators? Is it time for translators to collectively and more forcefully demand that publishers do what is right? In this session, experts discuss translators’ rights and participants share their experience in the real world. This webinar is open to all interested parties but will focus primarily on issues affecting literary translators who translate from and into lesser-diffused languages of East and Southeast Asia. Speakers: Nicky Harman (Paper Republic) Alexandra Büchler (Literature Across Frontiers) Bjorn Alex Herrman (Conseil Européen des Associations de Traducteurs Littéraires) Moderator: John H. McGlynn Register: bit.ly/duerights
